Many testimonies led up to the trip with the Holy Spirit confirming the need for us to go. Upon our arrival, we found the people to be most interested and a very loving friendly people. We were primarily based in the southern part of the Philippines. We were able to meet up with both of our contacts, Ian & Delmar, Delmar bringing also his father. We were able to travel on a daily basis back into a small village that was surrounded by a banana plantation. Here were assembled approximately 150 people made up of 9 tribal leaders, 26 pastors and various other people from at least 15 other villages. Being from the remote areas, we found that the understanding of God and his son, Jesus Christ, was a fairly new concept to many. Most did not speak English, so we used our 3 guides as interpreters. Naturally, we began “In the beginning…” having much liberty of the Spirit which naturally led to the areas of “Faith”, “Repentance” and the church that Jesus built. That night, 7 of the tribal leaders and 17 of the pastors stayed over at one person’s house in order to receive further instruction the next day. Upon returning, approximately 50 people met in a small grass thatched roof church that was borrowed for us to meet in. We were able to go deeper into the Gospel, talking about Lehi’s vision and the Gate by which we should enter. Each night on our way back to where we were staying, we were able to share, in depth, with our 3 contacts covering such things as life after death, the New Jerusalem, rebaptism and marriage. After our last night speaking in the village, all three of our contacts expressed their desire to be baptized and enter in a covenant with the Lord Jesus Christ. So on Saturday, October 6th, we headed for the ocean for a beautiful baptismal service. What a joy it is to see yet another field open up. It is truly an exciting time to be engaged in the work. Though there are several challenges not to be overlooked, not the least of which is the Muslim population and presence of their extremist. However, we know the Lord is watching over us and is and laboring with us. There are several things we wish you to keep in your thoughts and prayers. If you have contacts in the Philippines or Pacific Islands that might be interested in the Gospel, please forward them to information@philippineministries.org . Because of the lack of Knowledge of the English language, we are in the process of translating the Book of Mormon and inspired version a well as some tracts. Please pray the Holy Spirit would inspire those doing the translating. Also, pray for future trips and more laborers. This is a country with over 90 million people. Since our return, many people have now asked to be baptized when we return. Pray that our new members might be protected and edified by the Holy Spirit. And may God bless those seeds that have been planted that more fruit might be brought into his kingdom is our united prayer. |
